2008 : Film Review

Its been a tough year again to pick out an absolute classic Film, there have been some good films and a lot of average films but my shortlist for Films of the year is;

The Dark Knight - This film isn't really a Superhero film and it felt more like Heat when I was watching it, it just happened to have some guy in a Latex suit jumping around. Some great performances, twisty storyline and overall good stuff. Maybe just a tad too long and not enough action.

Wall E - Pixar do it again with this slightly downbeat story of the little Robot Wall E. Full of humour and invention and heart string pulling. Its amazing how they can convey so much emotion through an inanimate object.

Cloverfield - This was one of the few times I ventured out into the actual Cinema this year and watched it at my local multiplex digitally projected. Big Screen, Big Noise, Big Fun. This was more spectacle movie than a lesson in story telling but its one of the few times Ive been to the cinema and had my heart pumping. Superb.

Film of the Year? There isn't one. Any of these 3 could have been it, or maybe something else like Iron Man, or Wanted, or something else.

One of the biggest filmic disappointments of the year for me was "No Country For Old Men". Now this film has won loads of End of Year polls and I usually like this sort of thing and I did enjoy the first half but then it all fell apart to me. It was if they had got rid of the main actor and decided to tell a different story. It just bored me. But there you go....
